British cosmetics giant Lush on Wednesday shuttered its UK stores for one day in protest at Israel's ongoing siege and starvation of Gaza.

The company, which has more than 100 stores across the UK, has also closed its website and its factories for the day.

Banners were hung in the windows of its shops reading 'Stop starving Gaza. We are closed in solidarity' in the colours of the Palestinian flag.

Visitors to its website were redirected to a page carrying the same message.

Israel's siege has caused a famine in the Gaza Strip, with hundreds of thousands of people in the strip now at risk of starvation.

More than 360 people have died from malnutrition during the course of the war, including 131 children.

The number of people falling victim to malnutrition has accelerated in recent weeks, with 83 hunger-related deaths recorded in the past 11 days alone.

Nearly 1,400 Palestinians have also been killed by the Israeli military as they desperately tried to acquire aid from the US and Israel backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, whose distribution sites have been condemned as "death traps".

Lush has previously shown support for Palestinians, last year launching a soap in the shape of a watermelon slice and donating 100 percent of the profits to mental health services for Palestinian children.

The soap was the most successful single issue fundraising product in the company's history.

The company plans to make the product available again and donate the proceeds to medical services, including charities that provide prosthetic limbs to adults and children injured in Gaza.

"Across the Lush business we share the anguish that millions of people feel seeing the images of starving people in Gaza, Palestine. Like the rest of the world, we struggle to find ways we can help whilst the Israeli government is preventing urgent humanitarian assistance from entering Gaza," the company said in a statement.

It continued: "One thing Lush can currently send into Gaza is our love and a strong message that we stand in solidarity. This will take the form of halting business-as-usual by shutting our UK shops, website and factories for one day on Wednesday 3rd September 2025, with our shop windows displaying the message STOP STARVING GAZA - WE ARE CLOSED IN SOLIDARITY."

Lush also demanded that the UK government halt all arms sales to Israel and expressed hope that the closure pushes it to act.

"Whilst Lush is losing a day of takings, this also means that the UK Government is losing a day of tax contributions from Lush and our customers," it said.

"We hope they too hear the message our closure sends, with more government action needed to bring an immediate stop to the death and destruction, including an end to arms sales from the UK."

The company operates in more than 50 countries around the world.

"We expect similar actions may follow as other Lush countries seek ways to express their solidarity," the company said.
