The announcement by the UN came after an Israeli tank shell struck a UN site in Deir el-Balah killing a staffer and wounding six others.

Gaza's Ministry of Health has said that in the past 24 hours Israeli attacks on Gaza have killed 62 people, as Israel continues its unrelenting bombardment of the enclave.

Alongside the bombardment, and a brutal Israeli offensive into the southern city of Rafah, Israel's defence minister Israel Katz has threatened that unless Israeli captives are released the military take territory in the enclave.

The UN Secretary-General announced on Monday that a third of the global body's 100 international staff in the enclave would be temporarily relocated. The decision comes after a UN compound was struck by an Israeli tank shell in Deir el-Balah, killing a Bulgarian staffer and wounding six others.

Likewise, the International Committee of the Red Cross said on Monday that that its offices in Rafah were damaged after being struck by an "explosive projectile".

In Syria, Israeli airstrikes killed five people in Daraa province and also hit the the T4 and Tadmur military bases in the Syrian desert.
