The World Health Organization warned on Saturday that more than 15,600 people in Gaza, including 3,800 children, are in need or urgent medical evacuation to receive treatment.

In a post on X regarding a recent medical evacuation to the UAE, WHO chief Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus highlighted the plight of those unable to reach specialised treatment in Gaza, and called for an end to the war.

"We thank the #UAE for supporting yet another medical evacuation of critical patients from #Gaza. Still, more than 15 600 patients are in need of specialized care, including 3800 children. We call for increased access to help scale up evacuations from Gaza and more countries to step up and offer lifesaving care. Ceasefire!" he said.

Despite a recent ceasefire proposal being accepted by Hamas, Israel is yet to agree to ending its war on Gaza, with Tel Aviv now set on a complete occupation of the enclave.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz vowed Friday to destroy Gaza City if Hamas did not agree to disarm -- a key demand of Israel -- and release the remaining captives on Israel's terms.

Israel's war on Gaza has killed at least 62,622 Palestinians, most of them civilians, according to Gaza' health ministry.
