Lawsuit filed against Trump administration to reveal Gaza Humanitarian Foundation's funding information
A lawsuit has been filed against US President Donald Trump's administration seeking information on its funding of the Israeli-aligned Gaza Humanitarian Foundation.
The New York-based Center for Constitutional Rights announced the lawsuit this week in light of the Trump administration's approval for $30 million for GHF, and is seeking information on records of the funding.
The for-profit organisation, chaired by self-described Christian Zionist Johnnie Moore Jr., was registered in November 2024 in Delaware as a charitable nonprofit, was established in February and began operations in Gaza in May, following several weeks of an Israeli humanitarian aid blockade. It was said to be set up to assist in aid distribution to Palestinians in Gaza in place of the United Nations, with the idea of being more neutral and efficient.
However, it was quickly met with criticism for its distribution sites being scenes of Israeli attacks on Palestinians seeking aid. Since May, at least 859 Palestinians have been killed by Israel near GHF sites. Some UN officials have described GFH sites as "death traps".
These scenes have sparked mass demonstrations and calls for the closure of GHF. The Boston Consulting Group have ceased ties with GHF and attempted to distance themselves from having a history with them.
"GHF's militarised aid distribution model, which it designed in close coordination with the Israeli occupying power, is more suited to furthering the genocide than to providing much-needed humanitarian relief to a starved Palestinian population," said Ayla Kadah, attorney and justice fellow at the Center for Constitutional Rights, in a public statement.
"Rather than take action to prevent GHF's ongoing contribution to war crimes, the US government has provided it with a $30 million grant, bypassing even its baseline vetting processes. This shocks the conscience, and Americans deserve to know how their taxpayer dollars are being used to further this dangerous dimension of Israel's genocidal project," Kadah continued.
CCR's lawsuit is not only seeking information on the decision-making process of GHF's choice of aid sites that have led to attacks and displacement of Palestinians, but also the legality of GHF itself, which is registered as a charity in Delaware. Some have alleged that GHF is part of Israel's plan to expel Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.
Since Israel's war on Gaza began 22 months ago, more than 61,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli airstrikes in the besieged enclave and at least 270 have died due to Israeli-imposed starvation.
Earlier this month, Israel announced that it would be fully occupying Gaza, sparking concerns of a full expulsion of Palestinians from the enclave.
