Jordanian security forces forcibly dispersed a pro-Palestine march that started late on Tuesday near the Israeli embassy, west of the capital Amman, reports state.

The march, which saw dozens of people come out to chant for Palestine and wave flags in support of the enclave, took place following calls from the National Forum for Supporting the Resistance and Protecting the Homeland and the Islamic Movement.

The protest march was under the theme of ‘supporting the resistance to protect Jordan and the Nation’.

Participants of the march affirmed their support for Gaza in light of increased Israeli bombardment.

Many called on Arab governments and the international community to immediately take action to halt the aggression, allow aid into the besieged enclave, and sever all ties with Israel.

The Jordanian Democratic Popular Unity party said shortly after the protest was underway that security forces arrested several people and tried to disperse the crowds.

Video footage circulating on social media showed uniformed security forces dragging people away, hitting them with batons, and beating them.

They also prevented people from approaching the Israeli embassy by pushing people away.

The latest protest comes after a global strike was held on Monday to denounce Israel’s actions in Gaza and demand that aid be allowed into the Strip.

Countries around the world participated in the strike, from Turkey to Bangladesh, following calls from many Palestinian groups.

Protests for Palestine have become a regular occurrence in Jordan in recent weeks, particularly after Israel resumed the war on Gaza by violating the ceasefire deal on 18 March.

Last week, thousands of Jordanians took part in a mass rally near the US embassy in the capital.

The protesters expressed their anger over continued attacks on Gaza and the West Bank, as well as anti-Palestinian rhetoric from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump.

Jordan’s King Abdullah II called on the international community to take a clear stance and urged them to halt the war on the Strip.

In a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, he pressed for more aid into Gaza and adding that the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza "has reached unspeakable levels".
