Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana's new UK political party has garnered over 250,000 requests for membership in just over 24 hours, raising hopes regarding the new group's chances at the ballot box.

The number of signups for the new party, which initial reports stated would be called "Your Party", appears to rival the 309,000 registered members of the ruling Labour Party and right-wing Reform UK's 227,592.

"We are witnessing something special. 250,000 people don't sign up overnight for no reason. They have signed up to join a people-powered movement for change," Jeremy Corbyn told The New Arab.

"This is what happens when people are disempowered and denied a real choice by a stale two-party system. This is what happens when people are offered a real alternative"

"This is just the beginning."

Members of the pro-Palestine Independent Alliance in parliament have welcomed Sultana as the newest member of the group.

The group is a collection of independent MPs that includes Shockat Adam, Adnan Hussain, Ayoub Khan, and Iqbal Mohamed as well as Corbyn.

The Independent Alliance said they are calling for "an alternative now" and are "proud to represent communities up and down the country, united in belief that a better world is possible".

"The tide will turn when ordinary folk take power back from the elite," Ayoub Khan wrote on X following the announcement.

Leicester South MP Shockat Adam wrote: "Putting People before Politics."

"Real change is coming! People before politics," Dewsbury and Batley MP Iqbal Mohamed said.

A poll of 650 people earlier this month found that the formation of a new left-wing party posed a significant challenge to Labour, with 15 percent saying they would support the new party, matching Labour's numbers, in a survey conducted by Find Out Now for LBC News.

At the same time, a YouGov poll found that 18 percent of Britons say they are open to considering voting for a new left-wing party led by Corbyn.

While the name of its website is named "Your Party", Sultana clarified on X that it was not the party's name and members of the movement would get to choose the name at a conference set to take place later in the year.

However, this has not stopped critics from describing the party's launch as "messy", due to an alleged lack of coordination between Corbyn and Sultana.

"Members will choose the name. I strongly recommend Votey McVote Face," Labour MP Mike Reader wrote sarcastically on X.

James Cleverly, the Conservatives' shadow housing secretary, said: "To fumble one political party launch, Ms Sultana, may be regarded as a misfortune; to fumble twice looks like carelessness."

"From a branding perspective this is one of the worst party names ever," Zia Yusuf, a senior Reform UK figure and former chairman said.

Labour's secretary for Technology, Peter Kyle, said Corbyn is "not a serious politician" and "doesn't think about governing, he thinks about posturing".

News of a new party first appeared early in July after Sultana announced her intention to leave Labour.

She said that she was forming the new party with Corbyn, but he remained silent.

Corbyn later released a statement confirming the new faction, but said discussions were ongoing, leading to speculation that the politician may have been unaware of Sultana's intention to announce.
