A suspect was arrested after stabbing an Israeli soldier and stealing her weapons in the occupied West Bank on Thursday, the Israeli army has said.

The soldier's weapon was retaken from the suspect, the army said, without revealing the condition of the soldier. The incident, which took place in the Jordan Valley, is being investigated

Video posted to social media purportedly showed soldiers chasing the suspect after the stabbing.

In May, the month Israel conducted deadly airstrikes on Gaza, the Israeli army shot dead a Palestinian man who was allegedly trying to stab an Israeli soldier in the West Bank's Ofra settlement.

Less than two weeks later, an Israeli soldier and a civilian were wounded when they were stabbed outside a light rail station in Jerusalem. The attacker was shot and killed by police.

The Jordan Valley falls into the West Bank's Area C, which is fully controlled by Israel's army. The West Bank was illegally occupied by Israel in 1967.

The Israeli army has been demolishing Bedouin settlements in the Valley, including the demolition of the entire village of Homsa Al-Baqia in November.

The United Nations and European members of the Security Council have called on Israel to halt the demolitions.

A Palestinian man was killed and two injured in the Jordan Valley in February after a settler rammed his car into him.

Israel has been criticised for its illegal occupation of the West Bank, destruction of Palestinian homes and farmland, and other human rights abuses.
