Israeli soldier ‘severely injured’ in car-ramming attack in occupied West Bank
An Israeli soldier was reportedly severely wounded after a car-ramming attack in the southern occupied West Bank on Saturday evening.
The alleged suspect has since turned himself in after fleeing the scene.
The Israeli army says the perpetrator rammed his vehicle outside the al-Fawwar refugee camp in Hebron, injuring an Israeli soldier and lightly wounding another Israeli. Both were taken to hospital for treatment.
While Israeli forces shot at the car, the army may have hit a civilian – an incident being investigated.
The attack follows a shooting attack that happened last Friday when a gunman opened fire on a bus travelling from Ariel to Tel Aviv.
In September, three Israeli officers were killed when a vehicle opened fire on an Israeli police car as the army was carrying out raids across the occupied West Bank.
Forty-one Israelis have been killed in the West Bank since 7 October, while six members of the security forces have been killed.
The occupied West Bank has seen a rise in attacks since 7 October last year, following Israel’s offensive on Gaza and intensified raids.
Palestinians in the West Bank have been subjected to harsh restrictions, with the Israeli army carrying out near daily raids and arrests.
At least 5,250 Palestinians have been arrested in the territory, and over 800 Palestinian civilians have been killed by Israeli forces and settlers.
The occupied West Bank has also seen a surge in settler violence, with 1,423 recorded cases of settler violence in the region since 7 October.
