Israeli settlers continue wave of attacks against Palestinians as EU calls for measures
Israeli settlers carried out a series of attacks on Palestinians across the occupied West Bank on Friday, amid international warnings over the violence.
Mobs of Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian homes in the occupied West Bank village of Susiya in Masafer Yatta on Friday.
The official Palestinian news agency WAFA said one woman, named as Rabiha al-Nawajaa, was injured by the settler attack and taken to hospital.
Masafer Yatta is a cluster of 19 Palestinian hamlets but was declared to be a "live firing zone" by occupying Israeli forces as part of a closed military zone in the 1980s.
In the village of Burin, south of Nablus, settlers attacked the Sufan family home and erected a mobile home opposite it. The attackers, who came the Yitzhar settlement, have been harassing the family for years and obstructing the residents’ access, according to WAFA.
Elsewhere in the occupied West Bank, settlers stormed Joseph’s Tomb in Nablus, leading to clashes with residents who confronted them. Settlers also attacked shepherds in the northern Jordan Valley, preventing them from tending to their pastures.
The attacks come as part of a wave of settler violence, including the killing of three Palestinians on Wednesday in the village of Kafr Malik.
The European Union issued a statement on Friday urging “concrete measures to prevent settler violence against Palestinians and to ensure accountability for those responsible, especially under the current difficult circumstances”.
