Israeli overnight air raids killed at least four people, including three children, in an attack that targeted a camp for displaced Palestinians, while the International Court of Justice commenced its second day of court hearings into Israel’s humanitarian obligations in Gaza.
Since Monday, at least 48 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks across Gaza, with displacement shelters being some of the main targets.
The ongoing attacks come as an Israeli political source said there was no progress in negotiations taking place in Cairo.
The source added that they were not close to a "significant breakthrough" in comments given to Haaretz.
This comes after Egyptian officials told Reuters that negotiators had generally reached a consensus, while there were some remaining issues, and were nearing a major step forward in talks.
The bombardment of Gaza coupled with a stall in ceasefire talks comes as the second day of hearings at the ICJ commenced.
The court will see nine countries, including Algeria, South Africa, Saudi Arabia and Colombia speak before a panel today.
The 15-judge panel will over the next five days be hearing at least 40 countries and organisations comment on Israel’s humanitarian obligations to Palestinians and Israel’s actions against UNRWA.
Malaysia’s minister of law and institutional reform on Tuesday said Israel’s actions were an attempt to erase Palestinian presence, further accusing Israel of weaponizing restrictions on UN agencies, particularly UNRWA.
"These statements by Israeli officials about displacing Palestinians show a deliberate plan," Azalina Othman Said told the court, highlighting that using humanitarian aid as a tool of warfare is “a blatant breach of international law".
The minister also criticised Israel’s ban on UNRWA saying it is "stripping Palestinians of their rights and pushing them into exile".
This comes after Ammar Hijazi, the ambassador for the State of Palestine, described on Monday how Palestinians are being bombed, starved, and displaced.
Other representatives from the Palestinian legal team also noted how Israel shattered the ceasefire agreement and recounted Israeli officials making genocidal statements.
Israel’s war on Gaza has killed over 61,700 Palestinians since October 2023, levelling entire neighbourhoods and plunging the enclave into a deep humanitarian crisis.
Gaza’s government media office in recent days has reiterated that Israel is worsening suffering through the ongoing blockade on vital humanitarian assistance, leading to widespread malnutrition.
Malnutrition is affecting over 65,000 children, which could cause long-term health complications in the future.
A statement from the office said they hold Israel fully accountable for the unfolding humanitarian disaster and for "endangering the lives of hundreds of thousands of children, women and elderly people due to the lack of food, medicine and clean water".
