Israeli forces detain two Palestinian children in Jerusalem raid
Israeli forces on Thursday detained two Palestinian children from the town of Issawiya, east of occupied Jerusalem, amid a renewed crackdown and the shuttering of a military checkpoint.
Video footage shared on social media showed several Israeli officers taking away the children, who were identified as Muhammad Abu Asab and Ahmad Abed.
The children were arrested after Israeli forces raided their families’ homes, according to the official Palestinian Wafa news agency.
The latest development comes as Israeli forces totally shuttered the Beit Iska military checkpoint, northwest of Jerusalem, stopping locals from entering or exiting the village.
Last month, data from the Israel Prison Service showed that 360 Palestinian children have been detained in Israeli prisons since 30 June, which marks the highest figures since early 2016.

The data further shows that of that figure, 147 children were held in administrative detention without charges or trial.
Last year, a report from Save the Children raised concerns over the conditions detained Palestinian children were held. The organisation noted a marked increase in detentions of children since the start of the war on Gaza on 7 October.
Save The Children also said that the practice of detaining children was a long-standing issue and called for the Israeli government to halt the detention of children under military law and their prosecution in military courts.
Illegal Israeli settlers also launched attacks on Palestinians picking olives from their trees on Thursday in Turmasayya, located north of Ramallah.
Local sources said dozens of settlers sneaked into the town and attacked the locals, forcing them to flee.
Meanwhile, a Palestinian man described as being in his thirties was shot dead on Thursday morning while working in a bakery in Umm al-Fahm, local Palestinian media reported.
The man, identified as Mohammed Issa al-Far, was originally from the town of Nazlat Issa in Tulkarem. Police have announced that they have opened an investigation into the crime, noting that they are collecting evidence and carrying out searches in the vicinity of the area.
