Israeli forces on Monday closed all entrances to occupied East Jerusalem, cutting off the city from the occupied West Bank after a shooting which killed six Israelis and wounded at least 12 others.
Israeli police said the attackers - who were "neutralised" at the scene - arrived in a vehicle and opened fire at a bus station.
The army has imposed a military cordon on the Jerusalem governorate villages of Qatana, Biddu, Beit Inan, and Beit Duqu, where they are carrying out raids.
The attack comes amid Israel's continued war on Gaza, where it has killed over 63,000 Palestinians, and daily raids on Palestinian towns and villages in the occupied West Bank.
Army raids, settler violence
Israeli forces have been carrying out raids on the towns of Qabatiya, Siris, and al-Jadidah, south of Jenin since dawn. Local sources told The New Arab's Arabic-language sister site, Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, that the soldiers have been raiding Qabatiya for more than eight hours; breaking into Palestinian homes, interrogating property owners, and turning some residences into temporary military bases.
In Siris, soldiers raided and vandalised the home of deceased prisoner Muhyiddin Najm, who died in May in Israeli detention, while in Beita, south of Nablus, Israeli forces demolished Palestinian greengrocers and other businesses, according to reports.
Local writer Majdi Hamayel told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed that Israeli soldiers destroyed at least ten shops, which comprised around 30 percent of the commerical properties in the market area of Beita town.
In the town of Sur Baher, south of Jerusalem, Israeli authorities forced a Palestinian resident Ahmed Amireh and his four sons to demolish their own homes, Palestinian news agency Wafa reported. The four buildings were home to 12 members of the Amireh family.
Meanwhile, settlers continued their attacks on Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, destroying three vehicles and wounding one man in the village of Osarin at dawn on Monday.
Israel has carried out daily raids on the occupied West Bank in parallel with its war on Gaza, with members of Israel's government escalating moves to annex the Palestinian territory.
