Israel’s ongoing war on Gaza has killed 15 Palestinian journalists in the first quarter of 2025 alone, the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate said on Saturday.

This brings the total number of Palestinian journalists killed in Gaza since the start of the war on 7 October 2023 to 212.

The syndicate reported that 11 other journalists were injured during the same period, while the homes of 12 journalists were destroyed.

The findings come from a new report issued by the syndicate's Freedoms Committee, which monitors Israeli violations against journalists in the Gaza Strip, now devastated by nearly 19 months of Israeli bombardment.

The report documented "a series of crimes, attacks, and violations committed by the Israeli occupation regime, the most serious of which was the killing of 15 journalists."

It also noted that 17 members of journalists' families were killed alongside them, 11 journalists sustained serious injuries, and 12 journalists’ homes were demolished by Israeli rockets and shelling.

In addition, the committee recorded 15 journalist arrests, either from their homes or while on assignment. Some remain in detention, while others were released hours or days later.

The syndicate also registered 49 death threats made against journalists, who were warned to evacuate the areas they were covering.

In the occupied West Bank, approximately 117 journalists were subjected to assaults, repression, or were banned from reporting, particularly in cities such as Jenin and Jerusalem. The report further documented the confiscation or destruction of work equipment in 16 cases.

A truce agreed between Hamas and Israel on 19 January 2025 collapsed just two months later when Israel resumed its assault on Gaza amid disputes over a lasting ceasefire deal.

According to Gaza’s health ministry, more than 61,700 people have been killed in Israel’s offensive on Gaza since 7 October 2023, with over 14,000 others missing and presumed dead. The vast majority of the casualties are civilians.
