“Large areas are being seized and added to Israel’s security zones, leaving Gaza smaller and more isolated,” Katz said, adding that military operations would intensify until Hamas is defeated and all Israeli hostages are released.

The US Senate has officially confirmed Mike Huckabee as the next American ambassador to Israel.

A former governor of Arkansas and a devout evangelical Christian, Huckabee is a vocal supporter of Israel and its settlement enterprise in the occupied West Bank, which is considered illegal under international law.

In a 2017 interview with CNN, Huckabee dismissed the term “West Bank”, claiming: “There is no such thing as the West Bank. It’s Judea and Samaria.”

He went on to say: “There’s no such thing as a settlement. They’re communities, they’re neighbourhoods, they’re cities. There’s no such thing as an occupation.”

His appointment has sparked criticism from US human rights groups, who argue that his “extreme anti-Palestinian views” are deeply troubling and should have disqualified him from the role.

Pointing to the Geneva Conventions governing the treatment of people in war, Guterres emphasized the obligation of the "occupying power" to ensure the provision of food and medical supplies to the population.

"None of that is happening today. No humanitarian supplies can enter Gaza," Guterres said.
