An Israeli air strike has hit another high-rise in Gaza City, marking the seventh major tower destroyed, as outrage grows over Israel’s attack on Hamas leaders in Doha.

According to news agency AFP, the Israeli military destroyed another high-rise in Gaza City on Wednesday as Israel intensifies its assault on the territory's main city.

The military's Arabic-language spokesman, Avichay Adraee, had earlier issued an evacuation warning to those living in and around the tower. In a later statement, the military said it had "struck a high-rise building that was used by the Hamas terrorist organisation in the area of Gaza City."

Israeli forces are continuing to demolish high-rise residential buildings in Gaza City, alleging Hamas presence without evidence, in what analysts describe as a deliberate attempt to make the city uninhabitable- amounting to ethnic cleansing and genocide.

This comes amid widespread condemnation against from Arab states and the broader international community over Israel's unprecedented attack in Qatar targeting Hamas leaders- with critics warning that the attack threatens to derail renewed peace efforts and further inflame regional tensions.

Hamas said in a statement Tuesday that its top leaders survived the strike but that five lower-level members were killed, including the son of Khalil al-Hayya- Hamas’ leader for Gaza and its top negotiator- as well as three bodyguards and the head of his office.

Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem condemned Israeli attacks in Gaza, the West Bank, and Qatar during a televised speech, asserting that Iran continues to support the Palestinian people and their resistance, which he described as a “unifying cause” for the Muslim world.

Qassem accused Israel and the United States of committing “heinous crimes” in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, while praising Palestinian resilience despite mounting hardships. He described the recent shooting in East Jerusalem as a “bold operation” demonstrating Palestinians’ determination to fight.

He also denounced Israel’s recent strike on Doha, framing it as part of a broader strategy to expand its regional influence.

Calling on regional states to provide political, financial, and diplomatic support to the Palestinian resistance, Qassem warned that if Israel succeeded in eliminating armed groups, other nations could be targeted next, urging governments not to “stab the resistance in the back” by siding with Israel.

He praised Yemen for “bearing heavy burdens to stand with Palestine,” in the wake of Israeli airstrikes on Sanaa and al-Jawf, and emphasised that Lebanon’s highest form of patriotism lies in defending its territory against Israeli expansion.

He accused the United States of colluding with Israel to weaken Lebanon by seeking Hezbollah’s disarmament.

The UK’s Trades Union Congress (TUC) has unanimously backed a motion calling on the government to repeal its ban on the protest group Palestine Action, The Guardian reported.

The motion urges ministers to "repeal the authoritarian proscription of Palestine Action under counter-terrorism laws."

The ban, which came into effect on 5 July, marked the first time a direct action protest group was proscribed, placing it on the same list as organisations such as Islamic State.

Speaking at the congress in Brighton, PCS union president Martin Cavanagh said:

"The UK government’s proscription of Palestine Action under the Terrorism Act 2000 is not just a legal manoeuvre, comrades, it is a political attack with implications for our rights, our members, and our democracy."

It continued: "We believe this proscription represents a significant abuse of counter-terrorist powers and a direct attack on our right to protest against the genocidal Israeli regime. Let’s be clear: protest is not and can never be classed as terrorism. Solidarity is not a crime, and silence in the face of injustice is not an option.”

Amnesty continues to document human-rights violations and breaches of international law, while pushing for accountability at the international level,” Amnesty said in a statement.

The rights group added that Israeli President Isaac Herzog will be visiting the UK this week, and they have in turn urged Prime Minister Starmer to not provide any diplomatic cover for a state committing genocide.

British media report that a new mural by renowned street artist Banksy was covered up by Metropolitan Police on Wednesday outside London’s Royal Courts of Justice.

The artwork, unveiled on Monday, depicted a judge beating a protester—a critique of the judicial crackdown on pro-Palestine activists.

Its removal has sparked outrage, with critics accusing authorities of censorship.

The incident has fuelled debate on free speech online and highlighted perceived double standards, as activist organisations voiced anger amid growing protests against the UK’s proscription of the activist group Palestine Action under anti-terror laws.

UK journalist Owen Jones criticised the move, writing on X that "as soon as [Banksy] satirises peaceful protesters being dragged through the courts for holding placards opposing Israel’s genocide, he faces being unmasked and prosecuted."

Israel defends Qatar strikes after rebuke from Trump

The New Arab Staff & Agencies

Israel's UN envoy defended targeting Hamas leaders in Qatar as the "right" decision on Wednesday, after the strikes on the US ally's soil drew a rare rebuke from President Donald Trump.

The White House said Trump did not agree with Israel's decision to take military action on Tuesday and had warned Qatar in advance of the incoming strikes.

But Qatar, which hosts a large US military base and has spearheaded repeated rounds of Gaza truce efforts, said it had not received the warning from Washington until the deadly attack was already under way.

Israel's ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, sought to justify the decision, telling an Israeli radio station: "We don't always act in the interests of the United States."

"We are coordinated, they give us incredible support, we appreciate that, but sometimes we make decisions and inform the United States," he said.

"It was not an attack on Qatar; it was an attack on Hamas," Danon told 103FM.

The European Commission will propose sanctioning extremist Israeli ministers and a partial suspension of the European Union's association agreement with Israel, targeting trade-related matters, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Wednesday.

In a State of the Union speech to the European Parliament in Strasbourg, von der Leyen also said that the Commission will put its bilateral support for Israel on hold, without affecting work with Israeli civil society and Yad Vashem, Israel's main Holocaust memorial centre.

The Commission had previously proposed curbing Israeli access to its flagship research funding programme but failed to garner sufficient support from EU member countries for the move.

Von der Leyen said the Commission would now do what it can on its own.

The Commission chief said the body will set up a Palestine Donor Group next month, including an instrument for Gaza reconstruction.

"Such methods of fighting those whom Israel considers its enemies and opponents deserve the strongest condemnation."

Israel doesn't 'always act in interests of the US': official

Israel's UN envoy on Wednesday said his country does not always act in the interests of its ally the United States, after Israeli strikes targeting Hamas leaders in Qatar drew a rare rebuke from President Donald Trump.

The White House on Tuesday said Trump did not agree with Israel's decision to take military action on the US ally's soil and had warned Qatar in advance of the incoming strikes.

But Qatar, which hosts a large US military base and is the venue of repeated rounds of Gaza peace talks, said it had not received the warning from Washington until the deadly attack was already under way.

"We don't always act in the interests of the United States. We are coordinated, they give us incredible support, we appreciate that, but sometimes we make decisions and inform the United States," Israel's UN ambassador Danny Danon told an Israeli radio station.

"It was not an attack on Qatar; it was an attack on Hamas. We are not against Qatar, nor against any Arab country, we are currently against a terrorist organisation," he said.

Palestinian group Hamas said six people were killed in the strikes, including a son of its top negotiator, but that its senior leaders had survived. Qatar said one of its security officers also died.

Danon said Israel was "still waiting for the results" of the operation.

"It is too early to comment on the outcome, but the decision is the right one," he added.

Gaza aid flotilla activists claim second boat hit by drone

Organisers of a Gaza-bound flotilla carrying aid and pro-Palestinian activists said late Tuesday that another of their boats had been struck in a suspected drone attack off Tunisia's coast.

"Another boat has been hit," the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) said on social media, adding that no injuries had been reported.

"Second night, second drone attack," Melanie Schweizer, one of the flotilla's coordinators, told AFP.

The incident comes a day after the activists said one of their boats was hit by a similar suspected UAV off the coast of Sidi Bou Said, but Tunisian authorities said "no drones" had been detected.

The flotilla, which aims to break Israel's blockade of Gaza, was due to resume its voyage on Wednesday after being delayed multiple times by weather conditions and other issues.

Among its high-profile participants is environmental activist Greta Thunberg, who addressed pro-Palestinian campaigners in Tunisia on Sunday.

Japan condemns Israeli attack on Qatar, urges Gaza ceasefire

Japan strongly condemned Israel's attack on Qatar as a threat to Qatar's sovereignty and regional security, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi said on Wednesday.

Hayashi called the attack a "hindrance to diplomatic efforts" for a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages, expressing solidarity with Qatar and urging Israel to return to negotiations.

Israel attempted to kill Hamas political leaders with an airstrike on Qatar on Tuesday, escalating its military action in the Middle East in what the U.S. described as a unilateral attack that does not advance American or Israeli interests.

Trump issues rare rebuke to Netanyahu over Qatar strikes
8:05 AM
The New Arab Staff & Agencies

US President Donald Trump gave Benjamin Netanyahu a rare slap on the wrist Tuesday over Israel's strikes against Hamas in Qatar, as he insisted he played no role in the attack by one close US ally against another.

Trump said he was not notified in advance of the Israeli attack on the Gulf state, a crucial broker in the negotiations between Israel and Hamas on ending the Gaza war and securing the release of hostages held by Palestinian militants.

"I'm not thrilled about the whole situation," Trump told reporters during a rare outing to a Washington restaurant. "We want the hostages back, but we are not thrilled about the way that went down today."

The Israeli attack on Doha could hardly be more sensitive as Qatar, in addition to its role in the Gaza negotiations, is home to a huge US airbase and hosted Trump during a Middle East swing this year.

The fossil fuel-rich emirate also recently gave the United States a luxury Boeing 747-8 jet for Trump to use as his presidential plane, a move that sparked major ethical questions.

"This was a decision made by Prime Minister Netanyahu, it was not a decision made by me," Trump said in a post on social media.

"I view Qatar as a strong Ally and friend of the U.S., and feel very badly about the location of the attack," he said -- although adding that eliminating Hamas was still a "worthy goal."

In a statement that largely echoed one issued earlier by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, Trump focused on the possible damage to his efforts to end the war in Gaza.

"Unilaterally bombing inside Qatar, a Sovereign Nation and close Ally of the United States, that is working very hard and bravely taking risks with us to broker Peace, does not advance Israel or America's goals," Trump said.
