Israel has killed 1,001 Palestinians since 18 March as part of its resumption of its military offensive on the enclave, according to Gaza's Ministry of Health.

The announcement by the ministry comes after Israel issued a large scale displacement order for Gaza's southern city of Rafah towards al-Mawasi on Monday, continuing its brutal offensive as Palestinians mark Eid al-Fitr and the end of Ramadan.

The Israeli military's Arabic language spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, said that the army would "resume intense combat operations" in Rafah, with Israeli Army Radio describing the order as the most "extensive evacuation since the resumption of fighting", according to Al-Jazeera.

In the central and northern areas of the Gaza Strip, Israeli attacks killed five people and wounded others, according to Palestinian news agency Wafa, which is reporting that three people were killed in shelling on al-Masdar and two were killed in Jabalia.

Another four were killed in shelling on Khan Younis refugee camp, the agency also said, alongside two killed in the town of Abasan al-Kabirah.

Meanwhile, the US has continued its airstrikes against Yemen's Houthis in a bid to force them to stop attacking international shipping passing through the Red Sea. Yemen's Ministry of Health said the attacks, which began on 15 March, have killed 59 people including women and children.

Iran would have no alternative but to acquire a nuclear weapon if attacked by the United States or its allies, an adviser to the country's supreme leader warned on Monday, following a threat by Donald Trump.

The comments came hours after the supreme leader himself, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, had promised to hit back if the US president made good on his threat to bomb the Islamic republic if it did not agree to a deal to curb its nuclear programme.

"We are not moving towards (nuclear) weapons, but if you do something wrong in the Iranian nuclear issue, you will force Iran to move towards that because it has to defend itself," Khamenei's adviser Ali Larijani said in an interview with state TV.

Far-right Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has resigned from his post, submitting a formal letter to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

A spokesperson for Smotrich said his resignation was a protest against demands from his former far-right ally, Jewish Power party leader Itamar Ben-Gvir, who has sought additional ministerial positions as he prepares to rejoin the government.

Despite Smotrich’s departure, Netanyahu’s coalition is expected to remain stable, having passed the 2025 budget last week.

Ben-Gvir, who previously served as national security minister, quit the government in January over a ceasefire in Gaza but announced his return after Israel resumed its military offensive.

The prospect of expelling Gazans to neighbouring countries such as Egypt and Jordan was first raised by former US President Donald Trump and has since been embraced by right-wing Israeli politicians, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who vowed on Sunday to push ahead with the plan.

"In the face of this sinister scheme – one that combines massacres with starvation – anyone capable of bearing arms, anywhere in the world, must act," Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri said in a statement on Monday.

"Do not withhold an explosive, a bullet, a knife, or a stone. Let everyone break their silence," he added.

Amnesty International calls on Hungary to arrest Netanyahu
5:08 PM
The New Arab Staff

Amnesty International has called on Hungary to arrest and hand over Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the International Criminal Court, following his invite to the country by Prime Minister Victor Orban.

Amnesty's head of Global Research, Advocacy and Policy, Erika Guevara-Rosas, said: "As a member state of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Hungary must arrest him if he travels to the country and hand him over to the Court. Any trip he takes to an ICC member state that does not end in his arrest would embolden Israel to commit further crimes against Palestinians in the Occupied Palestinian Territory."

"Netanyahu's reported visit should be seen as a cynical effort to undermine the ICC and its work, and is an insult to the victims of these crimes who are looking to the Court for justice. Hungary's invitation shows contempt for international law and confirms that alleged war criminals wanted by the ICC are welcome on the streets of a European Union member state.

"The ICC was established to ensure accountability for victims of genocide and other crimes under international law, and so that crimes which shock the human conscience would "never again" be accompanied by impunity. In 'bringing power to justice', the ICC is now facing a global backlash from powerful leaders seeking to undermine the international rule of law and stamp out the prospect of accountability for the most powerful," she added.

Former Israeli captive Yarden Bibas, whose wife and children were killed in the enclave, has urged US President Donald Trump to press Israel to end the war to rescue the remaining captives.

In a first interview since being released from the Gaza Strip in February, under a truce deal that has since collapsed, Bibas said Israel's resumption of military operations this month would not help free the dozens of hostages still held in the Palestinian territory.

"Please stop this war, and help bring all the hostages back", Bibas said, addressing Trump in an interview with CBS News "60 Minutes" aired late Sunday.

"I know he can help," said Bibas.

"I'm here because of Trump, I'm here only because of him, I think he's the only one who can stop this war again".

Yarden Bibas, asked if he thought the resumed fighting in Gaza could encourage Hamas to release hostages, replied: "No."

Bibas told CBS News that while he was held in Gaza, Israeli bombardment was "scary, you don't know when it's going to happen, and when it happens, you're afraid for your life".

Iran's Khamenei rebuffs Trump threat over nuclear deal
8:45 AM
The New Arab Staff & Agencies

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Monday the US would receive a strong blow if it acts on President Donald Trump's threat to bomb if Tehran does not reach a new nuclear deal with Washington.

Trump reiterated his threat on Sunday that Iran would be bombed if it does not accept his offer for talks outlined in a letter sent to Iran's leadership in early March, giving Tehran a two-month window to make a decision.

"The enmity from the US and Israel has always been there. They threaten to attack us, which we don’t think is very probable, but if they commit any mischief they will surely receive a strong reciprocal blow," Khamenei said.

"And if they are thinking of causing sedition inside the country as in past years, the Iranian people themselves will deal with them," he added.
