Israel is beginning its assault on Gaza City following the approval of plans to occupy the city earlier this month.

Israel has issued expulsion orders for northern Gaza, telling hospitals and aid agencies operating in the north to leave ahead of a military offensive on Gaza City.

Prior to the calls, Israeli strikes on Gaza have intensified, killing at least 27 according to Al Jazeera citing hospital sources across the enclave. Those killed include Palestinians seeking aid.

Israeli have been particularly brutal on Gaza City, with Al Jazeera reporting incessant bombardment in the city's neighbourhoods, with an Israeli military spokesperson saying Israeli forces were holding positions in preparation for the assault.

Hamas has strongly protested the continued campaign in Gaza, telling mediators to put pressure on Israel to stop the offensive after it agreed to a ceasefire.

Israel's war on Gaza, which has been ongoing for 22 months, has killed 62,122 Palestinians and wounded a further 156,756 others.
