The death toll in Gaza continues to rise as Israeli strikes killed at least 36 Palestinians since dawn, after it was reported that 25 were killed in Gaza City.

At least 36 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes on Gaza since dawn, with 25 deaths reported in Gaza City alone, Al Jazeera English reported on Tuesday, as Palestinians expected 10 recent and new countries to formally recognise the state of Palestine, adding to the list of more than 145 nations that already have.

On Monday, Israeli forces said they had allegedly intercepted a projectile fired from the Palestinian city, where they are currently pressing a major ground offensive to capture the territory's largest urban centre.

This comes as France, Luxembourg, Belgium and others have recognised the state of Palestine during Monday's UN General Assembly meeting since Spain, Ireland, and Norway did in May 2024.

As Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated his vow that there will never be a Palestinian state, weekend recognitions came from the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia.
