Israeli forces detained 662 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank in July, including 39 children and 12 women, rights groups and prisoner bodies said on Sunday.

A report published by the Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS), the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs, and the Addameer said that Israel had detained over 18,500 Palestinians in the West Bank since October 2023. This figure includes 570 women and 1,500 children.

The numbers includes those who are still in detention and those who have since been released.

Thousands of others have also been detained by Israeli forces in Gaza.

Alongside its war on Gaza, Israel has carried out large scale raids on the occupied West Bank, which is home to some three million Palestinians, as well as around 500,000 illegal Israeli settlers.

Many Palestinians detained by Israeli forces are held under administrative detention -- a policy which allows Israeli authorities to hold them without charge or trial indefinitely.
