Israel bombs Beirut, exchanges fire with Hezbollah in south Lebanon

Gaza's civil defence service and hospitals said Israeli attacks killed at least 10 people on Sunday, in the latest episodes of continuing violence despite a months-old truce.

Israel and Hamas trade near-daily accusations of ceasefire violations and the Gaza Strip remains gripped by bloodshed as progress on permanently ending the war remains stalled.

A strike on a vehicle near the Al-Buraq school in western Gaza City killed four people, said the civil defence agency.

Gaza City's Al-Shifa hospital confirmed receiving the four bodies.

Another Israeli airstrike targeting a police station in the Al-Noss area of Al-Mawasi district in western Khan Yunis killed five people and wounded another 17, the agency reported.

Khan Yunis's Nasser Hospital confirmed receiving five bodies and treating the wounded, some of them in "critical condition".

The Gaza police directorate confirmed that Israeli warplanes struck the police station in Khan Yunis.

Hezbollah has said that its forces have confronted two Israeli tanks and a bulldozer attempting to reach the town of Tal al-Sawwan, targeting them with artillery and rockets, according to Lebanon's National News Agency.

The group added that it also fired surface-to-air missiles against Israeli aircraft operating over Nabatiyeh.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is currently convening a security meeting with Defence Minister Israel Katz and other military officials over Iran's threats to respond to Israel's strike on Beirut, according to Israeli press.

The US naval blockade of Iran and its green light on Sunday for Israel to escalate attacks in Lebanon make US bases and Israeli assets in the Middle East legitimate targets, Iran's top negotiator said in a post on X.

The comments from Iran's Parliament speaker, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, follow Israeli attacks on the southern suburbs of Lebanon's capital, a stronghold of Iran's ally Hezbollah.

"They are neither committed to a ceasefire nor believe in dialogue, and through the naval blockade and violation of agreements regarding Lebanon they showed that they only understand the language of power," Qalibaf said in an apparent reference to the US and Israel.

An Israeli airstrike on Gaza City has killed four Palestinians, including a woman, according to Palestinian news agency Wafa.

Several other people were injured in the strike.

Iranian lawmaker Ebrahim Rezaei said in a post on X on Sunday that Tehran will give a "painful" response to Israel's attack on Beirut's Dahiyeh southern suburb, after the Israeli military said it struck Hezbollah infrastructure in the area.

US President Donald Trump called for more "surgical" strikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon in an interview broadcast Sunday.

"I'd like to see Lebanon have a better life. I'd like to see a more surgical attack on Hezbollah. I think it should be more surgical," Trump said, according to a transcript of the interview with NBC's "Meet the Press," recorded Friday.

Lebanon's health ministry has announced that Israel has killed 3,613 people since the start of its war on Lebanon, with a further 11,072 others injured.

US President Donald Trump said in a recent interview with NBC News' "Meet the Press" that he would not unfreeze Iranian assets or lift any sanctions before a peace deal is reached.

Trump said he would consider those steps after an agreement is done. "Comes after," he said. "Yeah. If they behave, if they do a good job, we start talking. Yeah."

Trump also said that he was not demanding that Lebanon be a part of a short-term deal with Tehran.

Greece has arrested a Palestinian man suspected of links to the Islamist movement Hamas for "planning terrorist acts", police said Sunday.

The 37-year-old was arrested Saturday on the island of Crete where he was working in a hotel as an electrician, media reports said.

"According to the information available so far, he was linked to individuals recently arrested in Cyprus for terrorism-related offences," the police said in a statement late Saturday, adding that he had allegedly "received training" by Hamas.

A follow-up police statement on Sunday said the man had "ordered explosives online".

Greek media reported that the man may have been targeting an Israeli cruise ship expected to arrive in Crete on Tuesday.

An Israeli attack on Beirut's southern suburbs within the last hour hit two buildings in the area, Lebanon's state-run news agency said.

From 1997 to 2007, Israel transferred 150 families from the Arab al-Jahalin Bedouin tribe from their villages in the eastern Jerusalem hinterland to a satellite of the Palestinian town of Al-Eizariya known as Al-Jabal, or the mountain.

Displaced next to a Jerusalem municipal landfill, these Bedouins not only lost their homes but also their traditional way of life, now living in stone townhouses with limited grazing land for their livestock.

The homes they were expelled from are today a part of the Israeli settlement of Ma'ale Adumim. And just like nearly 30 years ago, the remaining al-Jahalin Bedouins in the East Jerusalem periphery are again being pushed out for the creation of Israel's E1 settlement.

In March 2026, the Israeli government initiated a plan to expand the al-Jabal neighbourhood with 950 housing units on approximately 20 acres of land. While not explicitly saying who the new neighbourhood is for, rights groups and Jahalin Bedouins say the "Shami neighbourhood" is intended to be the site where East Jerusalem Bedouins will be relocated to.

"[It] is meant to be used as the excuse for the justification for the expulsion of the Palestinian communities and say, 'They have an alternative. We allocated this land for them,'" Hagit Ofran, co-director of Israeli activist group Peace Now's Settlement Watch project, told The New Arab.

The Israeli military struck on Sunday Beirut's southern suburbs, known as Dahiyeh, in response to Hezbollah fire toward Israeli territory, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz said in a joint statement.

The strike comes amid a renewed Israeli assault on southern Lebanon, which has increasingly caused casualties among Israeli soldiers.

Hezbollah has announced it targeted Israeli soldiers in the town of Bayyada, according to Lebanon's National News Agency.

Hezbollah fighters also clashed using light and medium weapons with Israeli forces advancing towards the town of Haddatha, while a gathering of soldiers and vehicles was also targeted on the outskirts of Tayri with artillery.

Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Tehran, delivering a message to Iran's supreme leader, according to Al Jazeera, citing Araghchi's telegram channel.

Naqvi had met with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni late Saturday, holding talks on Sunday morning with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, according to official Iranian media.

There were no details on the contents of the message.

Israel has issued a displacement order for the residents of the city of Tyre in south Lebanon, alongside its surrounding neighbourhoods such as the camps of al-Bas and Zakuk al-Mudfi.

A spokesperson for Israel's army told residents to "move north of the Zahrani River."

Israel has conducted airstrikes on south Lebanon, including the city of Nabatiyeh, according to Lebanon's National News Agency.

The NNA said that a drone strike on a motorcycle killed one person of the Zefta road, while two Syrians were killed in a drone strike that targeted their motorcycle between the towns of Aaba and Deir.
