UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper has called on Iran and Israel to de-escalate following renewed attacks that have raised fears of a wider regional conflict.

In a post on X, she said: “The resumption of conflict between Iran and Israel is in no one’s interest.”

“Both sides must show restraint and de-escalate immediately,” she added.

Cooper also stressed that “negotiations must continue towards the lasting settlement that we all need, for peace and stability in the region, and for the full restoration of global trade.”

An Israeli court has sentenced a Palestinian journalist from occupied East Jerusalem to 20 months in prison on charges of incitement and support for a terrorist organisation, according to AFP.

The journalist, Bayan Al-Juba, said she was shocked by the ruling issued by the Jerusalem Magistrates’ Court and intends to appeal.

The court ordered that she serve an “immediate term of 20 months’ imprisonment, commencing on 6 September,” according to the judgement seen by AFP. She was also given a six-month suspended sentence and fined 5,000 Israeli shekels (around $1,700), with the right to appeal within 45 days.

Juba, a 33-year-old freelance journalist who has worked with several media outlets, said the charges were based on social media posts published on her personal accounts.

She was arrested in February 2025 outside Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem’s Old City.

Prosecutors alleged she had engaged in “incitement and support for a terrorist organisation” through her online activity.

The Israeli government agency COGAT has announced the closure of all crossings into Gaza following a missile attack from Iran.

In a statement, COGAT said: "Following the missile attacks launched by Iran against the State of Israel, a number of necessary security measures have been implemented, including the closure of the crossings into the Gaza Strip, among them the Kerem Shalom [Karem Abu Salem] Crossing and the Rafah Crossing, until further notice."

Oil prices rose more than three percent on Monday when markets reopened after the weekend, reflecting renewed concerns over Iran's first attack on Israel since an April 8 ceasefire.

In early trading, the price of Brent crude, the international benchmark, climbed 3.29 percent to $96.15 a barrel.

Its US equivalent, West Texas Intermediate (WTI), rose 3.25 percent to $93.48 a barrel.

Tehran fired several missiles at Israel on Sunday, which Israel claimed to have intercepted. The strikes put new strain on a fragile ceasefire on the 100th day of the war in the Middle East.

US President Donald Trump said Sunday he will call Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to urge him not to retaliate against Iranian missile strikes on Israel, news outlet Axios reported.

"I am going to call Bibi right now and tell him not to retaliate," Trump was quoted as saying by Axios journalist Barak Ravid in a phone interview, using the Israeli leader's nickname.

"Each of them had their fun. Israel had its strike and Iran had its strike. We don't need another one," Trump said, according to excerpts of which Ravid posted on X.

Sunday's missile barrage was Iran's first against Israel since an April ceasefire took hold in the Middle East war, and Trump voiced concern it could set back negotiations.

"The Iranian strikes didn't hurt anybody. Hopefully Israel is not going to retaliate. If Bibi strikes them back it's just gonna keep going like the last 47 years, or the last 3,000 years," the US president said.

"We are very close to a final deal with Iran. It is going to be a good deal. I don't want it to blow up because of what is happening now," he added.

Iran's powerful Revolutionary Guards called Sunday's attack a "warning" after Israel struck Beirut's southern suburbs earlier in the day, threatening wider strikes in the event of repeated aggression.

Israeli military chief Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir vowed Sunday that the military would strike Iran "with force" upon receiving orders, after the Islamic republic fired missiles at Israel.

"The [Israeli army] will strike the enemy with force as soon as the green light is given," Zamir said in a statement as he conducted a situational assessment, the military said.

Iranian state television has reported that airstrikes targeted bases belonging to Kurdish opposition groups in Sulaymaniyah, northern Iraq.

According to the report, the strikes hit locations used by Iranian Kurdish opposition factions operating in the area.

Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran has announced the closure of the airport until further notice, with all incoming and outgoing flights suspended.

The Israeli military vowed on Sunday to press ahead with its military campaign in Lebanon and said it would step up operations against Hezbollah.

"The (Iranian) regime is attempting to establish a new equation through direct attacks on Israeli territory in response to [Israeli military] operations in Dahiyeh," military spokesman Brigadier General Effie Defrin said, in a televised statement.

"We struck in Dahiyeh in response to Hezbollah's relentless attacks on the communities of northern Israel. The [Israeli military] will continue to operate throughout Lebanon and will intensify its actions against the Hezbollah terrorist organisation."

Syria closed its airspace as a safety precaution on Sunday after its eastern neighbour Iran launched missiles across their territory towards targets in Israel.

In a brief statement, Syria's authority closed the country's "southern air corridors" for 12 hours.

Iran closed the airspace over the west of the country on Sunday after launching a salvo of missiles towards Israel in response to its latest strike on Lebanon.

"Due to safety and security assessments... the western part of the country's airspace was declared closed until further notice," said Majid Akhavan, the spokesman for the National Civil Aviation Organisation, in a statement carried by the news agency IRNA.

The Israeli military said Sunday that Iran had committed a "grave mistake" by launching a barrage of missiles at Israel.

"The Iranian terrorist regime has made a grave mistake by once again choosing the path of terror," military spokesman Brigadier General Effie Defrin.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held separate telephone conversations with Yvette Cooper, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Pakistan's army chief Asim Munir to discuss the latest regional developments.

The talks focused on the situation following Iran's response to what Tehran described as Israel's repeated violations of the ceasefire in Lebanon.

Iraq has temporarily closed its airspace and suspended air navigation for reasons related to air traffic safety following the launch of Iranian rockets, civil aviation officials told news agency Reuters on Sunday.

The Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority said Iraqi airspace will remain closed for 72 hours.
