Iran has summoned the Kenyan ambassador for explanation after two more Iranians were arrested by Nairobi authorities.

Iran's foreign ministry spokesperson Bahram Ghasemi asked Kenya to "seriously look into the issue" about the detention of the two men for allegedly hatching a terrorist plot in the African state.

The men were arrested along with their Kenyan driver for allegedly filming the Israeli embassy that Nairobi authorities believe would be used in preparation for a "terrorist attack".

The two Iranians lawyers were arrested following a visit to a prison to see two Iranians sentenced to 15 years on terrorism charges.

Iran has complained that Sayed Nasrollah Ebrahimi and Abdolhosein Gholi Safaee were arrested in Nairobi in an Iranian diplomatic car.

They "were found taking video clips of the Israeli embassy ... for the use in the commission of a terrorist act" a charge sheet alleged, Reuters reported earlier this week.

Kenyan officials have not commented on why Ebrahimi and Safaee were detained or if they face any charges.

Kenya has witnessed major attacks on its soil, including al-Qaeda and Somali militant bombings and shootings.

In 1998, the US embassy was bombed by alleged al-Qaeda linked militants killing over 200 people.
