A Palestinian woman has given birth to a baby girl inside an Israeli prison while being held under administrative detention, the Palestinian Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs said on Monday.

Dana Joudeh, 35, from Iraq al-Tayeh near Nablus in the occupied West Bank, was detained while pregnant and spent six months in Israel's Damon Prison without charge or trial, the commission said.

Joudeh is due to be released on Tuesday with her newborn daughter after completing her six-month administrative detention order. She is currently reportedly receiving treatment at a hospital in Ramallah.

The Palestinian Prisoners' Society said Joudeh has another child and was detained while pregnant before being placed under administrative detention.

The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs accused Israel of leaving Joudeh to go through her pregnancy without adequate healthcare or medical attention, describing her detention and treatment as violations of international law.

"Leaving her to struggle through her pregnancy without any health or medical care constitutes a crime that violates all international norms and laws," the commission said.

It also noted that forcing Joudeh to give birth inside the prison as a "double crime" and said the Israeli prison administration treats Palestinian women prisoners "brutally".

Joudeh's case comes amid wider allegations of abuse and mistreatment of Palestinian women held at Damon Prison.

In June, the Palestinian Prisoners' Media Office reported that women detained there had faced physical abuse and torture, including being forced to lie on the ground with their hands tied behind their backs before being beaten.

The office also reported poor-quality food and medical neglect among female prisoners.

Israel holds hundreds of Palestinians in administrative detention without charge or trial, with detention orders that can be renewed indefinitely.

More than 9,400 Palestinians are currently held in Israeli prisons, including 370 children and 92 women, according to the Palestinian Prisoners' Society.
