Greta Thunberg and Donald Trump have once again entered into a spat on social media, with the activist asking for recommendations on anger management after the US president described her as "angry" and a "troublemaker".

In a sarcastic post on Instagram on Tuesday, Thunberg said: "I hear Donald Trump has once again expressed his very flattering opinions on my character, and I appreciate his concerns for my mental health."

She added: "To Trump: I would kindly receive any recommendations you might have to deal with these so-called 'anger management problems' since - judging by your impressive track record - you seem to be suffering from them too."

Her comments come after Trump told reporters in the White House on Monday that Thunberg is "just a troublemaker… she's no longer into the environment now. She has an anger management problem. I think she should see a doctor."

"Have you ever watched her? She's a young person. She's so angry, she's so crazy," he added.

Trump's comments came after Thunberg was deported from Israel to Greece on Monday following her illegal detention in international waters by the Israeli navy on board the Global Sumud Flotilla that attempted to break Israel's siege on Gaza.

Thunberg was reportedly abused while in Israeli detention, as were other detained activists, reportedly being beaten and forced to kiss the Israeli flag.

The flotilla convoy was the largest to attempt to break Israel's siege of Gaza yet, consisting of dozens of ships. Over 450 people were detained by Israeli forces in international waters.

The remarks are the latest round of a series of public spats between the two, with Trump in June calling Thunberg "strange" and "angry" for a previous attempt to get aid into Gaza as part of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition.

Trump kicked off the spat in 2019 after Thunberg's speech at the UN on the climate crisis, sarcastically calling her a "very happy young girl".

Since being propelled into the spotlight after launching the 'Fridays for Future' climate protests, Thunberg has taken up several global issues, including Israel's occupation of the Palestinian Territories and the issue of Western Sahara.
