Qatar's regional allies and world powers condemned Israel's strike on Doha on Tuesday, which targeted Hamas political leaders in the first attack of its kind in the Qatari capital.
Here are the reactions from leaders and states in response:
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
"Today's action against the top terrorist chieftains of Hamas was a wholly independent Israeli operation.
Israel initiated it, Israel conducted it, and Israel takes full responsibility."
Qatar
"Qatar strongly condemns the cowardly Israeli attack that targeted residential buildings housing several members of the Political Bureau of Hamas in the Qatari capital, Doha. This criminal assault constitutes a blatant violation of all international laws and norms, and poses a serious threat to the security and safety of Qataris and residents in Qatar."
"While the State of Qatar strongly condemns this assault, it confirms that it will not tolerate this reckless Israeli behaviour and the ongoing disruption of regional security, nor any act that targets its security and sovereignty," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al Ansari said on X.
Qatar's Prime Minister said it will continue trying to mediate a ceasefire and captive release in Gaza.
"Nothing will deter us from continuing this mediation in the region," Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani told reporters.
United States
US President Donald Trump denied any role Tuesday in Israel's strikes on Qatar, saying the decision to launch the attacks was Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's and not his.
"This was a decision made by Prime Minister Netanyahu, it was not a decision made by me," Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform, adding that he wants the Gaza war to "END, NOW!"
Trump also did not agree with Israel's choice to conduct strikes against Hamas inside US ally Qatar, the White House said Tuesday.
While eliminating Hamas was a "worthy goal," a strike in the Qatari capital Doha "does not advance Israel or America's goals," White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters, reading from a statement.
"The president views Qatar as a strong ally and friend of the United States, and feels very badly about the location of this attack," she added.
Palestine
Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas condemned Israel's airstrikes, warning they threatened regional security and stability.
"His excellency stated that the brutal Israeli attack on Qatar constitutes a blatant violation of international law and an escalation that threatens regional security and stability," Abbas's office said in a statement reported by the official Palestinian news agency, Wafa.
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres
The Israeli strikes are a flagrant violation of sovereignty and the territorial integrity of Qatar. All parties must work towards achieving a permanent ceasefire, not destroying it," Guterres told reporters.
Pope Leo
"There's some really serious news right now: Israel's attack on some Hamas leaders in Qatar. The entire situation is very serious," Leo said outside the papal summer residence of Castel Gandolfo, as quoted by ANSA news agency.
Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia condemns and denounces in the strongest terms the brutal Israeli aggression and flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the sisterly State of Qatar.
The Foreign Ministry statement warned of "The direct consequences resulting from the Israeli occupation's persistence in its criminal violations and its blatant violation of the principles of international law and all international norms."
Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Tuesday slammed Israel's attack on Hamas in Qatar, calling the strike a "criminal act" in a call with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
"His Royal Highness the Crown Prince affirmed the Kingdom's full solidarity with... Qatar and its condemnation of the blatant Israeli attack on the State of Qatar, which constitutes a criminal act and a flagrant violation of international laws and norms," read a statement published by the Saudi Press Agency.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun
"It falls within the series of aggressions committed by Israel, which demonstrate its determination to strike all efforts made to achieve stability and security in the countries of the region."
Iran's foreign ministry
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Israel's attack on Hamas officials in Qatar is 'dangerous' and a 'violation of international law', Iranian media reported.
UAE foreign ministry
The United Arab Emirates strongly condemns the "blatant and cowardly" Israeli attack on Qatar, which is a dangerous escalation that violates international law and the sovereignty of a fellow Gulf state.
Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan said in a statement the UAE stands in full solidarity with Qatar and supports all measures to protect its security.
Turkey
Turkey condemns Israel's attack against Hamas members in Qatar's capital Doha, its foreign ministry said on Tuesday, adding this showed Israel had adopted "expansionist politics in the region and terrorism" as state policies.
"The targeting of the Hamas negotiating delegation while ceasefire talks continue shows that Israel does not aim to reach peace, but rather continue the war," the ministry said in a statement.
"This situation is clear proof that Israel has adopted its expansionist politics in the region and terrorism as a state policy," it added.
France
French President Emmanuel Macron said Israel's airstrikes were unacceptable, whatever the reasoning behind them might be.
The strikes "are unacceptable regardless of motive", Macron wrote on X, adding that "the war must not be allowed to spread in the region". Israel's strikes on Doha targeted Hamas political leaders in the first attack of its kind in the Qatari capital.
Britain
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer the strikes, saying they risked further escalation in the region.
"I condemn Israel's strikes on Doha, which violate Qatar's sovereignty and risk further escalation across the region," he said in a post on X.
"The priority must be an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages, and a huge surge in aid into Gaza. This is the only solution towards long-lasting peace."
Germany
Germany condemned Israel's air strikes on Doha, calling them "unacceptable".
"Israel's attack on Doha not only violates Qatar's territorial sovereignty, but also jeopardises all of our efforts to secure the release of the hostages. This attack is unacceptable," Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said in a statement.
European Union
Israel's air strike against Hamas leaders in Doha breaches international law and Qatar's territorial integrity, the European Union said in a statement late on Tuesday, warning against risks of a further escalation of violence in the region. "We express full solidarity with the authorities and the people of Qatar, a strategic partner of the EU," a spokesperson for EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said in a post on X.
"Any escalation of the war in Gaza must be avoided - it is in no one's interest. We will continue to support all efforts towards a ceasefire in Gaza."
Canada
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said the attack was "an intolerable expansion of violence" that poses a risk of escalating conflict throughout the region.
"Canada condemns Israel's strikes in Qatar — an intolerable expansion of violence and an affront to Qatar’s sovereignty," Carney said on X.
"Regardless of their objectives, such attacks pose a grave risk of escalating conflict throughout the region, and directly imperil efforts to advance peace & security, secure the release of all hostages, and achieve a lasting ceasefire — efforts in which Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani plays a highly constructive role," Carney added.
Italy
Italy on Tuesday expressed solidarity with Qatar, calling to avoid further escalation in the region.
"On behalf of myself and the Italian Government, I express my sincere sympathy to Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Qatar, reiterating Italy's support for all efforts to end the war in Gaza," Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on X adding that "Italy remains opposed to any form of escalation that could further aggravate the crisis in the Middle East",
"The attacks have damaged the sovereignty of a friendly country that has been working for months to stop the war in Gaza and to help Israel itself recover the hostages still in the hands of Hamas terrorists", Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said in a statement.
"The ceasefire, negotiations and a definitive truce are essential steps to avoid a new crisis that would be even more devastating and dangerous for the entire Middle East", he added.
