Free Me: British singer Joss Stone 'deported' from Iran
The soul artist embarked on a world tour five years ago with the ambitious goal of performing in every country on the globe.
Stone has managed to perform in North Korea and even crossed over to Derik, a town in Kurdish-controlled northern Syria, to perform earlier this year.
But the British singer was halted as she arrived on Kish Island for "the very last country" of her world-tour list - Iran.
Stone claims she did not plan to perform in the Islamic Republic, where solo concerts by women performers are outlawed.
In a video posted to Instagram on Wednesday, Stone said she knew solo performances by women were illegal but she still wanted to see Iran.
Despite the claims, the singer said Iranian authorities had placed her on a "black list" as they believed she may attempt to perform in public.
"Well, we got to Iran, we got detained and then we got deported," she said in the video.
"These people are genuinely nice kind people that felt bad that they couldn't override the system," Stone added in a caption.
"They didn't speak English so well so the translator Mohamed, who clearly had a lovely soul conveyed the message that they hoped we would go to [the] embassy to sort it all out and come back," she explained. "They were refusing us entry with a heavy heart and were so sorry."
Stone expressed disappointment over the experience but said the blame lay with her and her team for "not having our correct paperwork".
Kish is an economic free zone in the Persian Gulf that allows travel by all nationalities.
