Farida Osman, a leading Egyptian swimmer, has qualified for the World Swimming Championships' 50 metre butterfly semi-final race, due to be held on Friday in Kazan, Russia.
The 20-year-old finished 12th in the preliminary heats with a time of 26.33 seconds, just shy of her personal best, which is an Egyptian and African record, according to Egyptian state media.
The semi-finals will take place on Friday night.
Osman finished 7th in the Barcelona 2013 World Championships, the best result ever for an Egyptian during the history of the tournament.
Other Egyptian swimmers have also performed well in Kazan with eight national records broke over the course of the meet by seven Team Egypt swimmers - more than any other country.
The first two records came on day one, as Osman shattered her own national record for the 100 metre fly, twice in succession.
US-Egyptian national Osman learnt to swim at Cairo's Gezira sporting club, and now represents the University of California, Berkeley, one of the US' leading universities.
