Dua Lipa fires agent after trying to get Kneecap banned from Glastonbury

British pop-singer Dua Lipa has reportedly dropped her agent after he signed a letter calling for Irish band Kneecap, which has been vocally pro-Palestine, to be banned from the Glastonbury Festival in July.

David Levy was reportedly the first person to sign a secret letter calling for the founder of the festival to drop the band, which some have accused of supporting Hamas and Lebanese group Hezbollah, proscribed terrorist organisations in the United Kingdom. The band has previously slammed the accusations. 

A source in the music industry told The Mail on Sunday that the singer "has made sure through her people that David Levy wasn't working on her music anymore", adding that "she is very openly pro-Palestine and that doesn't align with David".

"She views him as being a supporter of Israel's war in Gaza, and the terrible treatment of the Palestinians, and that was made very clear through the letter that he signed and sent to Michael Eavis," the source told the British tabloid.

A letter, which was meant to be "private and confidential", urged Glastonbury's founder, Michael Eavis, and his daughter Emily to drop the Irish band and was signed by 30 individuals from within the music industry.

The letter, which was leaked and widely reported on in June, noted the controversy surrounding the group, including terror charges against one of its members.

The letter was sent from a "very systemically powerful music agent" and was later criticised by Kneecap.

While Lipa remains with the same talent company, William Morris Endeavour, she is now being represented by a different agent there.

Responding to the news, Kneecap wrote: "Sayōnara" on X, a Japanese word for farewell and also one of the song names.

Glastonbury has also faced calls to ban the Irish band after one of its members, Liam Og O hAnnaidh, known as Mo Chara, was charged with a terrorism offence after allegedly displaying a Hezbollah flag at a gig in November 2024.

The case has since been adjourned to the end of September.

Chara was also accused of chanting "Up Hamas, Up Hezbollah" during the same concert, and the group was accused of showing support for the groups during their set in the US music festival Coachella.

Dua Lipa has long been a vocal supporter of Palestine, condemning Israel's genocide in Gaza and joining other artists in protesting the UK's arms sales to Israel amid the war.

British band Massive Attack, who have also been vocal on the Palestinian cause, dropped Levy over his pro-Israeli stance.
