Doctors, medical specialists, and healthcare professionals from across the globe have joined a growing international campaign to raise awareness about Israeli attacks on Gaza's Nasser Hospital and demand its protection from continued siege and bombardment.

The campaign comes as Israeli forces escalate strikes in the surrounding area and impose severe movement restrictions, effectively cutting off medical teams from the hospital.

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) issued an urgent warning this week, calling attention to Nasser Hospital as one of the last functioning medical facilities in southern Gaza. The charity warned that intensified shelling and operational constraints now threaten to force its closure.

In a statement, MSF revealed that Israeli forces have begun requiring 24-hour permits for anyone to access the hospital.

This has left overnight medical staff working for 48 consecutive hours to keep services running.

MSF described the move as a "deliberate obstruction of medical care", with its head of emergency programmes, José Mas, warning: "This has happened before at the Indonesian Hospital and Al-Awda Hospital. First, orders come to stop admitting patients, then the attacks follow. Denying access to Nasser is a death sentence for hundreds who rely on its emergency services."

Online, dozens of medical professionals have taken part in the #AllEyesOnNasser campaign, urging protection of the hospital. Many highlighted that Nasser provides critical services unavailable elsewhere in the Gaza Strip, including blood banks, oxygen plants, and ventilators.

"Nasser Hospital is on the brink of collapse, with healthcare workers donating their own blood to save patients. Five days ago, the WHO called for urgent protection for Nasser and Al-Amal hospitals—the last two public hospitals still operating in Khan Younis, where most of the population now lives," a primary care doctor posted on X.

Toronto-based doctor Kavita Algu posted: "I demand action from our governments to protect the last hospital in south Gaza, Nasser Hospital. It is currently under attack. I stand with my colleagues and the patients at Nasser."

Dallas Duncan, a Canada-based cardiac anaesthesiologist, also joined the campaign, posting: “The right to health must be protected. Hospitals and healthcare workers are not legitimate targets.” He shared petitions demanding that governments oppose attacks on medical facilities, suspend arms sales to Israel, allow unimpeded humanitarian access, and push for a long-term ceasefire.

Access to medical care has worsened in recent weeks, with ambulances unable to reach patients due to new Israeli-imposed restrictions. Hundreds of patients remain inside the hospital without proper care as aid continues to be blocked from entering the Strip.

MSF also reported that, due to Israeli displacement orders, it has been forced to adjust its operations at Nasser and transfer burn and orthopaedic care to a field hospital in Deir al-Balah. Meanwhile, Al-Aqsa Hospital has reportedly been bombed three times in recent days.

Israel’s war on Gaza has killed over 61,700 Palestinians since October 2023 and left entire neighbourhoods destroyed. Leading rights organisations, including Amnesty International, have said Israel’s actions amount to genocide.
