DJ Khaled’s cousin slams him for choosing ‘money and fame’ over speaking about Gaza
Globally renowned Palestinian-American DJ and record producer, Khaled Mohammed Khaled, better known as DJ Khaled, has been slammed by his cousin for his silence on Israel’s ongoing war on Gaza.
Entrepeneur, event producer and rising reality TV personality Fadie Musallet criticised DJ Khaled in multiple recent podcast appearances for not condemning Israel’s actions or highlighting the plight of Palestinians, despite the war raging on for over a year.
In one interview, which has since circulated widely, Musallet says: "Unfortunately, everyone has their reasons, but there’s no reason or excuse when you’re actually a Palestinian".
The comments came in response to an interview questioning why DJ Khaled has chosen not to bring up the topic, despite scores of other public figures, celebrities, and activists shedding light on Israel’s bombardment of Gaza.
DJ Khaled’s fans have also demanded he explain why he has chosen to stay quiet on the matter.
"For me, my mother lives there, we’re from the same village, same families, so there’s no excuse. Right now, my heart, dedication and everything are with Palestine. I go there a lot but like I said my mother lives there, I do a lot of charity work with a lot of refugee camps," Musallet continued.
In another interview published on a TikTok platform titled ‘Celebrities4Palestine’, Musallet states that DJ Khaled’s family have not been back there since 1985.
"They just lost touch, you know what I mean?" he states.
The interviewers proceed to quiz him about the barrage of comments DJ Khaled must see from critics and fans over his silence on Gaza.
"He does [see them]. Sometimes when you dig that hole so deep you just can’t get out of it. And I think right now he just knows he’s so deep down nothing is going to make up for it," he explains.
He was also asked whether he thinks DJ Khaled chose money and fame over speaking about Palestine, to which he replies: "Yeah, absolutely".
"When times are tough, people show their true colours. When we needed him the most, he never showed up and now he doesn’t even exist to us," he continued.
Musallet further stated he was confused by DJ Khaled’s actions, since the latter supported the Black Lives Matter movement and supported victims of the LA fires earlier this year.
"No one in the world has ever seen a genocide like what’s going on in Palestine, and it's just crickets…for me myself I wouldn’t say I forgive him, but I’m going to pray for him," he said.
Musallet’s comments come as Israel’s war on Gaza has killed over 61,700 Palestinians since October 2023, with the actual toll expected to be much higher, the Palestinian government media office states.
Journalists, medics and children have been targeted and killed despite international outcry, while the Israeli blockade preventing food, aid and vaccines into Gaza also continues, leaving the population at risk of disease and malnutrition.
The war has levelled entire neighbourhoods and plunged Gaza into a deep humanitarian crisis.
