Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Mahdavi Kani, head of Iran’s Assembly of Experts, has died of heart failure. The 83-year-old cleric’s death leaves a vacancy at the top of the country’s only institution that has the power to select and dismiss the country’s Supreme Leader.
