The Syrian government and Syrian Democratic Forces have reached a four-day ceasefire in a bid to see the implementation of a new agreement between the two, struck on Tuesday.

If implemented, the agreement reached by Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa and SDF military leader Mazloum Abdi would see Abdi put forward a candidates deputy defence minister, governor of Hassakeh, and see the integration of SDF forces into the military.

Additionally, the Syrian army would not enter the cities of Hassakeh, Qamishli, and other predominantly Kurdish villages.

Meanwhile, the Syrian army has taken control over the Al-Hol refugee camp, which is housing thousands of family members of Islamic State fighters.

The camp was abandoned by the SDF as the Syrian army was moving into Hassakeh province, the group's stronghold.

The Syrian army called the attack, which it said took place as soldiers were securing a captured military base containing explosives, a dangerous escalation.

The SDF, previously the main US ally in Syria, said it had not carried out a strike and that the blast had occurred when Syrian soldiers were moving explosives. It accused the Syrian army of violating the truce with attacks in several locations.

The widow of Iran's former shah, Farah Pahlavi, told AFP there was "no turning back" after a wave of protests against the country's clerical authorities, saying she is convinced the Iranian people will emerge the "victors".

Driven into exile with her husband in January 1979 during the popular revolution that brought the Islamic Republic to power, she said her "desire" and her "need today are to return to Iran", in an exclusive interview with AFP.

Triggered on 28 December by protests over economic hardship, nationwide rallies surged on 8 January, challenging the Islamic republic in power since 1979, before a violent crackdown that rights groups say has left thousands dead.

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has accepted an invitation to join US President Donald Trump's "Board of Peace" aimed at resolving conflicts, Netanyahu's office said Wednesday.

The board was originally conceived to oversee the rebuilding of post-war Gaza, but its charter seen by AFP does not appear to limit its role to the Palestinian territory, and members have to pay up to $1 billion for a permanent spot on it.

The board "seeks to promote stability, restore dependable and lawful governance, and secure enduring peace in areas affected or threatened by conflict", reads the preamble of the charter sent to countries invited to participate.

It will be chaired by Trump himself, who will also "separately serve" as the representative of the United States.

Al-Hol, located in a desert region of Hasakeh province, holds around 24,000 people, including 15,000 Syrians and about 6,300 foreign women and children of 42 nationalities.

The Syrian defence ministry said Tuesday it was ready to take responsibility for Al-Hol camp "and all IS prisoners".
