A cameraman working for a Kurdish television channel plummeted to his death after falling from a mountain in northern Iraq.

Ahmed Ali, who worked for the channel NRT, died after he fell from Mount Piramagrun, a rugged peak reaching 2,611 meters in the Sulaimaniyah governorate in Iraq’s autonomous Kurdish region.

NRT said on its website that the accident occurred on Sunday morning while he was working. No further details on the accident were given.

A short clip it published on its website in memory of Ali shows him talking about the show he directed for six years called 'Adventure,' which is about car journeys through rugged terrain.

In a tragically poignant segment, Ali made a reference to the dangers involved in filming in the area.

"Adventure is a very hard program [to shoot], if your feet slip on one stone you lose your life," he says.

Born in 1978, he had worked at the channel since 2016. He leaves behind two children.
