General Burhan freezes RSF accounts, sacks central bank chief

Sudan's military leader General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan issued a decision to freeze the bank accounts of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and its affiliated companies, his office said in a statement on Sunday.
The head of the armed forces has also sacked central bank governor Hussain Yahia Jankol, his office said on Sunday.
Borai El Siddiq, who is one of Jankol's deputies, has replaced the outgoing governor, Burhan's office said in a statement.
The reason for Jankol's sacking was not immediately clear.
Sudan has been mired in turmoil since a military conflict erupted between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in mid-April.
Before the conflict erupted on 15 April, the Sudanese pound had already been hit by spiralling inflation as the economy floundered.
Looting in recent weeks has targeted banks in Khartoum and Omdurman, according to local residents, which has seen cash supplies grind to a halt and caused Sudan's fragile informal economy buckle under the pressure.
