A British student has gone viral after telling a BBC reporter during a live segment that the UK broadcaster was complicit in the Gaza genocide.
The Liverpool student was approached by the BBC when opening the results of his A-Levels, a series of exams that decide which university, if any, students can go to.
"On that note, I just want to say Free Palestine, end the genocide and the BBC is complicit," he says to the reporter.
"We’re here to talk about A-Level results…" the reporter interrupts, with the student hitting back, "the BBC is complicit".
The BBC reporter ends the interview saying, "alright, thank you for your thoughts, we’re here to talk about A-Level results today, Gaza [is] a whole different subject".
The student's comments received praise online from pro-Palestine supporters who applauded him for speaking out.
The BBC has been under intense scrutiny over its coverage of Israel's more than 22-month war on Gaza.
There have been regular protests outside BBC headquarters by pro-Palestine activists over the past two years over biased coverage of the war in Gaza.
A study published by the Centre for Media Monitoring in June found that BBC made 33 more mentions of Israelis killed than Palestinians in written reports and 19 times in broadcast packages.
More than 61,500 people have been killed in Gaza since the start of Israel's genocidal war on Gaza in October 2023, most of them women and children.
The casualties include hundreds who have starved to death due to Israel’s siege.
Gaza’s suffering is widely seen as having raised global awareness and shifted public opinion regarding the Palestinian cause, with millions taking to the streets in capitals around the world.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said earlier this month that he would recognise a Palestinian state if Israel did not end the war in Gaza, and seek to allow more aid into the enclave.
The UK however, is still supplying Israel with weapons amid the war on Gaza.
