The office of The New Arab's affiliate channel Al Araby TV’s in Tehran was damaged on Sunday after a missile struck the building housing the broadcaster, cutting a live transmission and injuring at least 10 people, according to the channel and Iranian emergency authorities.
Al Araby TV's correspondent in Tehran said the strike caused significant destruction to the building and surrounding area.
In a statement released after the attack Al Araby TV said:
"Al Araby Television expresses its condemnation of this attack and emphasizes that exposing journalistic teams to danger or placing them in the line of fire contradicts international laws and relevant Geneva Conventions.
Al Araby Television and its teams in Tehran continue their work to provide comprehensive and professional coverage of the course of the war."
The Iranian Red Crescent reported that at least 10 people were injured in the airstrike targeting the building.
The channel’s correspondent, Hazem Kallas, had been delivering a live report when the broadcast was abruptly cut. It later emerged that a missile had struck the building directly, causing heavy damage to the street where the office is located.
"I was delivering my report from inside the office when suddenly a missile struck the building. The situation is extremely dangerous, and the cameramen are with us. The building has clearly been damaged, and residents gathered in the street to follow what happened," the correspondent said.
Footage filmed by Kallas on his mobile phone showed extensive damage to the office and surrounding buildings, with debris scattered across the area.
The office was evacuated following the strike to ensure the safety of staff.
Nearby buildings on the same street also sustained damage, as residents gathered at the scene and ambulance crews rushed to provide assistance.
Rescue teams were deployed to the site and surrounding areas, where significant structural damage was reported. Roads were opened to allow movement away from the scene.
The strike comes amid the US-Israeli war on Iran, with Tehran repeatedly hit since the start of the conflict in late February.
Waves of air raids have also struck other cities, targeting a range of sites across the country and causing damage to civilian areas and infrastructure.
At least 1,937 people have been killed and 24,800 injured according to the Iranian health ministry.
